Xiaomi is scrapping its ‘Mi’ brand from Xiaomi Mix 4: Report

Xiaomi is supposed to abandon the ‘Mi’ brand of its products and simply use ‘Xiaomi’ going forward. This brand change began with the company’s latest flagship smartphone, the Mix 4, which launched in China on August 10 and simply called Xiaomi Mix 4. At the moment, it’s not clear whether this brand change is only for vertical smartphones or for all Mi brand products. The Mi brand has been around for about 10 years.

The change was first apparent with the newly released Mix 4 which, instead of being called Mi Mix 4 according to previous generation phones (Mi Mix 3, Mi Mix 2 and so on), is called Xiaomi Mix 4. Now a report by XDA developers, quoting a company representative, states that all of their upcoming products will come with the Xiaomi brand instead of the Mi brand. However, things are a bit confusing right now, considering that Xiaomi’s latest series of tablets are still called Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro (according to the Google translation).

Therefore, it is unclear whether Xiaomi has decided to abandon the Mi brand for all of its products or just smartphones. It is also unclear whether this change will also be implemented in the Indian market. Gadget 360 contacted the company for clarification and this space will be updated when we receive a response.

The first Mi brand smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 1, launched in August 2011, makes the brand almost 10 years old. Over the years, the Mi brand has expanded to tablets, TVs, smart devices, tools, toys, audio accessories and more.

A recent report by research firm Counterpoint showed that Xiaomi became the world’s number one smartphone brand for the first time in June 2021. Its sales were up 26% over May and captured 17.1% of the global shipping market. smartphones. Another Strategy Analytics report stated that Xiaomi led Android 5G phone shipments globally in the second quarter of 2021.

Currently, the company is preparing to launch its Mi TV 5X, Mi Band 6 and Mi Notebook in India at its Smarter Living 2022 event scheduled for August 26th. She also sparked the Redmi 10 Prime that will be released in the country on September 3
