Shang-Chi Out, September 3 in India, in English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada

Shang-Chi is coming to India in line with the US. Disney announced on Friday that the next Marvel movie – the full title is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – will be released on Sept. 3 in Indian theaters in English, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada. There’s no mention of Tamil or Malayalam because theaters aren’t open in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Gadgets 360 discovered. But when theaters reopen, it’s to be expected Shang-Chi will be available in these two additional dubbed local versions. Shang-Chi it will miss out on India’s biggest theater market as well, Maharashtra, which also remains closed because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Still, for the rest of India and for those who feel comfortable entering a dark, enclosed space where you can’t tell who’s wearing masks, Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings will be available at the same time that its global release. This is different from Marvel’s previous title. Black Widow, which had a day and date release in theaters and at Disney + Premier Access in July – but was absent from Indian theaters (because they were closed) and Disney + Hotstar (because there was no Premier Access). Shang-Chi is having an exclusive theatrical premiere, a decision the Disney CEO regrets a bit because of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the United States in the past month or so.

“About Shang-Chi, we think it’s really going to be an interesting experience for us because it only has a 45-day window for us,” said Bob Chapek last week on Disney’s quarterly earnings conference call. “Therefore, the prospect of being able to bring a Marvel title into service after entering the theater at 45 days will be one more piece of information to inform our actions in the future. But once again, […] when we plan Shang-Chi, this title was designed to be much healthier [sic] theatrical environment. And at this point, unfortunately, because of the distribution agreements that we have and just because of the practicalities of last minute changes, [a Disney+ Premier Access release] it would not be possible. ”

Simu Liu stars in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, alongside a cast that includes Awkwafina as her friend Katy, Meng’er Zhang as her distant sister Xialing, Fala Chen as Shang-Chi, and Xialing’s mother, Jiang Li , Florian Munteanu as steel blades for Razor Fist hands, Benedict Wong as the sorcerer Wong (from Doctor Strange), Yuen Wah in an undisclosed role, Ronny Chieng as friend of Shang-Chi Jon Jon, Zach Cherry as bus driver, Dallas Liu as Ruihua, with Michelle Yeoh as guardian of mythical city Jiang Nan and Tony Leung as Shang-Chi and Xialing pai Wenwu / The Mandarin. Destin Daniel Cretton directs, Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz are the producers.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings – the first film in Marvel’s cinematic universe with an Asian superhero at the forefront – will be released Sept. 3 in India in English, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada. It should be available in October on Disney + and Disney + Hotstar, following the aforementioned 45-day window.
