The OnePlus 8 series – including OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro – is receiving the OxygenOS 126.96.36.199 update. It is being released to users in the European market currently. Indian and North American markets will get it soon. The update gets optimizations for OnePlus Buds Pro, always-on display (AOD), camera and more. Along with the update is the August 2021 Android security patch. As usual, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro update will be rolled out in phases.

Detailing the update on its community forum, OnePlus mentions that it is bringing some major changes to OnePlus 8 (review) and OnePlus 8 Pro (review). These changes include newly added optimizations and features for OnePlus Buds Pro that were released last month. The update also fixes an issue with navigation gestures that occurred in certain situations. It also received system stability improvements and other bug fixes.
The front camera also received an optimized Portrait mode effect. OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are also getting a new OnePlus Store app. Notably, the newly added app can also be uninstalled if users wish.
AOD also received some important updates with the update. Users will now be able to take a screenshot of their AOD to share. OnePlus is also adding Bitmoji AOD – powered by Snapchat – to OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Users will now be able to add their Bitmoji avatar to AOD. The avatar will continue to be updated according to user activity and their environment. To enable Bitmoji AOD, go to Settings> Personalization> Clock on screen environment> Bitmoji.
The firmware version for OnePlus 8 update in India, Europe and North America is 188.8.131.52.IN21DA, 184.108.40.206.IN21BA and 220.127.116.11.IN21AA, respectively. The OnePlus 8 Pro will get versions 18.104.22.168.IN11DA, 22.214.171.124.IN11BA and 126.96.36.199.IN11AA in India, Europe and North America respectively. As mentioned, both OnePlus smartphones will receive the update first in Europe and later in India and North America.
Along with the update is the latest August 2021 Android security patch. OnePlus didn’t mention the size of the update. However, users are still advised to update their OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones while they are connected to a strong Wi-Fi connection and charged. The update is scheduled to be rolled out in phases and should reach all eligible smartphones automatically over the air. To manually check the update, go to Settings> System> System Updates.
