JioPhone’s upcoming pre-booking in India to go live next week: Report

JioPhone Next’s pre-booking in India will start next week, according to a report. The next smartphone was jointly developed by Reliance Jio and Google and is expected to be an ultra-affordable option for the masses. It was unveiled by the telecommunications giant at Reliance Industries’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June and is expected to go on sale next month. JioPhone Next specifications can include an HD display as well as up to 3GB of RAM.

Quoting people familiar with the retail chain’s plans, 91Mobiles reports that JioPhone Next’s pre-booking in India will begin next week. Jio said it has started negotiations with its retail partners for the orders. At AGM in June, Reliance Industries President Mukesh Ambani announced that the phone would be available on September 10th. Jio, however, has yet to provide further details.

The price of JioPhone Next in India has yet to be officially revealed. Jio claims it will be the “most affordable smartphone not just in India but globally”. According to an insider, JioPhone Next may come with a price of Rs. 3,499.

The JioPhone Next specs are rumored to include the Android 11 (Go edition), a 5.5-inch HD screen and a Qualcomm QM215 SoC. The phone can come in 2GB and 3GB of RAM along with 16GB and 32GB of eMMC 4.5 storage options. For photos and videos, JioPhone Next can carry a 13 megapixel camera sensor on the back and an 8 megapixel selfie camera sensor on the front. It can have a 2,500 mAh battery and support dual-SIM. Also, there are rumors that the cheap smartphone has Bluetooth v4.2 and GPS connectivity.

Jio confirmed that JioPhone Next will come with system-wide Read Aloud and Translate Now features. It will also have deep integration with Google Assistant and India-specific Snapchat lenses on the phone’s camera.
