Apple confirmed on Tuesday that it is hosting its event slated for September next week. But while the company didn’t explicitly mention whether it would be the long-awaited iPhone 13 launch event, it did provide some insight into its upcoming big release via the official invitation that takes you to an augmented reality (AR) experience. Apple has made a record offering of AR Easter eggs since last year to boost its ads. However, this time around, the team led by Tim Cook has gone up a notch and seems to suggest that the next iPhone release could bring some next-level AR experiences.
The latest AR Easter egg kicks in when you visit Apple’s events page and tap the September 14th invitation on your iPhone or iPad. It features an Apple AR logo that will appear on the camera’s display. You can zoom in to see the lake landscape, then move your Apple device to find the “9.14” release date.
Apple has also integrated some sound effects that are powered by spatial audio along with the WDL song “Weather”.
The AR logo primarily uses Apple’s ARKit pre-installed on the iPhone and iPad. Therefore, you will not be able to get this experience on an Android device or on your computer.
Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak tweeted about the AR experience shortly after the iPhone invitation hit media outlets around the world. Joswiak’s tweet also gives an idea of what Apple has provided this time around as an Easter egg.
Previous reports suggest that the entire iPhone 13 lineup has the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanning technology that Apple previously offered on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. the experiences of RA.
There are also rumors that Apple is working separately on mixed reality (MR) headsets, AR glasses and AR contact lenses to increase its presence in the world of interactive experiences. However, these new hardware announcements are unlikely to occur at next week’s event.
