Instagram will launch advertising in its Shop feature globally, the Facebook-owned app said on Tuesday, as it looks to make more money from brands looking to reach new customers.
Instagram Shop is an in-app photo and video sharing tab that allows users to browse items such as clothing and beauty products and, in some cases, purchase the items directly from the Instagram app.
Users can click on an Instagram Store ad to see more details about the product, browse additional branded items, or save the product to a wish list.
The company began testing ads earlier this month with select advertisers, but the feature is now open to brands worldwide, wherever the Instagram Store is available.
Instagram is also supposedly working on a skill that will allow users to like a story. Until now, this feature did not exist and users could only react to stories, which appear in their direct messages. The ‘Like’ button is expected to appear on the main Stories page. A user should be able to see the number of likes and the users who posted them in a separate interface. A user can post multiple likes in an Instagram story.
