Marion Bartoli praises impressive Petra Kvitova – Tennis News
World number 10, Marion Bartoli, was immensely impressed by the performance of her third round foe, Petra Kvitova, at the hard courts of Montreal, Canada during the Rogers Cup on the eve of Friday. She lost in straight sets 1-6,
1-6 in just an hour and that wasn’t expected of her especially considering that she is capable of pulling up an upset against the 22-year-old Czech.
At the end of the match, Bartoli commented about her rival and stated, “I believe today her performance was extraordinary. When she plays like this it’s almost impossible to play against her. I had break opportunities and every
time she served an ace.”
She further added, “Against Serena I won once and lost once, but I never felt like I couldn’t do anything. Against Petra today I was under the impression I just couldn’t play. She’s able to play a winner from anywhere on the court
and whatever ball you send her. She takes your control away. I never felt like this against Serena or Sharapova – for example, when I served well, she would return a missile.”
Both players were locking horns for the fourth time in their professional career and Bartoli had won twice against the sixth ranked Czech before losing out in the final of the Hopman Cup at Perth, earlier this year. However, there
are no head-to-head gaps after this battle as Kvitova has equalized the scores to 2-2 with this triumph.
Bartoli committed five double faults and failed to convert any of the allotted three breakpoints in her favour. She won 31 points compared to 56 of her rival but the category that slammed the overall stats down for the number one
Frenchwoman was the conversion of her first and second serves that proved to be just 50 percent and mere 29% respectively.
Let’s hope the 27-year-old Frenchwoman is able to put up a better show at the Western Southern Open that will follow Rogers Cup in Cincinnati.
On the other hand, Kvitova is comfortably placed in the quarter-finals where she will meet the winner of the match between Tamira Paszek and Carla Suarez Navarro.
