India Cabinet Approves Starting Price for Telecom-Spectrum Auction

NEW DELHI—India set the base price to commence an auction of telecommunications bandwidth at many times more than what companies paid four years ago in a sale that the top court later canceled, saying the process was flawed and led to corruption.

The federal cabinet Friday decided to set the starting price at 140 billion rupees ($2.51 billion) for a 5.0-megahertz slot to provide services across the country using global system for mobile communications, or GSM, technology.
