London, July 13 (ANI): Government officials in Abu Dhabi have barred single men from sitting in certain areas of a beach in the city following complaints made by families and women.
The Abu Dhabi Municipality took the decision after protests from families and women who claimed that men stared, took photographs and bothered people using the beach.
Arif Al Tamimi, a supervisor in the municipality’s community-services division, claimed that they were also not allowed to sit on the footpath.
However, men will be allowed in the area’s two free beaches and at the paid Al Sahil beach, as long as they wear proper swimming attire, and added that men are also welcome in the gardens and footpaths by the beaches.
Ayesha Mohamed, 21, a Zayed University student, reportedly claimed she did not feel comfortable going to the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
“There are many teenage boys mocking and provoking everyone, including girls,” the Daily Mail quoted the girl, as saying.
Al Tamimi explained that the rules apply to all unaccompanied men, whether they are south Asian labourers, Arab teenagers or western businessmen.
The Abu Dhabi Municipality said the rules would not be bended according to dress, appearance or job. (ANI)R Soft Web Hosting
