SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – A judge says a psychiatrist and a psychologist who examined former Notre Dame assistant football coach Corwin Brown to determine his mental status came up with differing opinions as he faces charges of striking his wife and holding her hostage.
St. Joseph County Judge Jane Woodward Miller says the reports by the two doctors came back with a “split of opinion.” The reports weren’t immediately available after Tuesday’s court hearing and defense attorney Mike Tuszynski (TAH’-shin-skee) wouldn’t elaborate. Tuszynski says he and prosecutors need time to review the reports.
Brown’s family believes his actions last August leading to a seven-hour police standoff at his home near South Bend might stem from brain trauma he suffered when he was an NFL defensive back.
A status hearing is scheduled for June 28.
